Mama...Mama...I Love You

A Song For Mama - Boys II Men

You taught me everything
And everything youve given me
I always keep it inside
Youre the driving force in my life, yeah
There isnt anything
Or anyone I can be
And it just wouldnt feel right
If I didnt have you by my side
You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were grey
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be what you have been to me
Youll always be you always will be the girl
In my life for all times
Mama, mama you know I love you
Oh you know I love you
Mama, mama youre the queen of my heart
Your love is like
Tears from the stars
Mama, I just want you to know
Lovin you is like food to my soul
Youre always down for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong...Yes you did
And you took up for me
When everyone was downin me
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
There was so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you come to me
And say to me I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
Youll always be...You will always be the girl in my life

I Love You Bonda

Mother's Day Celebration

Happy Mother's Day to All Mothers Out There

Mama - Spice Girls
She used to be my only enemy and never let me be free
Catching me in places that I knew I should'nt be
Every other day I crossed the line I didn't mean to be so bad
I never thought you would become the friend I never had
Back then I didn't know why
Why you were misunderstood
So now I see through your eyes
All that you did was love
Mama I love you...Mama I care
Mama I love you... Mama my friend.
You're my friend...
I didn't want to hear it then but I'm not ashamed to say it now
Every little thing you said and did was right for me
I had a lot of to think about, about the way I used to be
Never had a sense of my responsibility
Back then I didn't know why
Why you were misunderstood
So now I see through your eyes, all that you did was love
Mama, I love you... Mama, I care
Mama, I love you... Mama ,my friend.
You're my friend...
But now I'm sure I know why,
Why you were misunderstood
So now I see through your eyes
All I can give you is love is love
Mama I love you... Mama, I care
Mama, I love you... Mama, my friend,
You're my friend...
Mama, I love you... Mama ,I care
Mama, I love you... Mama, my friend,
You're my friend...

I Love You Bonda

No Elimination

A new car for her, Insyaallah. Malamnya pula :) bermain futsal maka saya agak berseorangan menonton AF6.

Persembahan dimulakan dengan lagu bonus- pemanas konsert. Lagu popular Andy Flop Poppy & Misha Omar "Sembunyi" & Melly Goeslaw & Eric "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta". Sayu ajer mendengarkannya. She still has the voice despte a slightly large size - cayalah Kak Aishah!!!

Could it be Aziz & Zulkifli's dad? - I am so bad with the entertainment highlights in Malaysia). At laSt Toi, an IMPROVEMENT!!! Nyanyian yang kurang mendatar, gerak badan yang rileks mngikut muzik - thank god at last he managed to entertain people.

We know she can sing so she needs something to make us awe and say wow. She needs to work out her X-factor, poor girl. She needs to understand now people are having a much higher expectations towards her ability to sing & entertain. But I seriuosly hope (and vote) she will make it to the finals.
Stanly belted out "Naluri Lelaki" (originally sang by Samsons). He looks and moves so energetically on the stage and down on the floor with the crowd. I am happy that he was increasingly improving after a few gloomy weeks. Bangkit semula Stanly - you can do it.
Riz & "Laskar Cinta"nya gagal menghiburkan saya.
But now we know who votes for talents & who votes for looks. Peminat sekarang semakin bijak? Pengundi sekarang semakin bijak? Betulkah kenyatan itu sebenarnya? I doubt so people :)
Thank you Stacy for making every week of my watching the concert something worth it!! But its ok girl, we know you can go far & the votes that you got are genuinely casted due to your talent and not due sympathy.

Blues For Me.............

As I was doing my work while surfing the net (well my job does require me to surf the net you know :)); I suddenly missed all those cartoons I used to watch while I was still a kid. (The reason why I chose not to use the word "young" is merely because I believe I am still young - well at heart at least). They just don't make cartoons like the way they used to. I still remember watching Alf the sitcom & Alf The cartoon ;
Babar ; Bettle Juice (The beginning of the so-call Gothic cartoon I assume);
CareBears (Awwww so cute wish I can have it all);
DuckTales ; GhostBusters ; Gummi Bears ;
Flintstones ; Jetsons ; Johny Quest
She-Ra:Princess Of Power with her beloved twin brother
He-Man & the Masters Of The Universe; Transformers, ; The Smurfs (remember the rythm la la lalalala la lalalala); Heathcliff, ; Captain Caveman ;
Popeye, Pink Panther ;
Saber Rider & The Star Sherif
Scooby Doo (my all time favourite) ; Scrappy Doo - just to name a few.

I guess the cartoons nowadays are meant for the cyber generation. Continuation of older generations cartoons like Transformers & X-Men have seems to be taken by anime look alike. The cutie faces & round eyes. Kinda restricts the choices of cartoons. Yelah semua cartoon rupanya sama ajer, pun tak berapa best jugak rasanya.

Guess what I found on the net?! This website actually has all the episodes of Jem & The Hologram series. Wallawei and I thought they have been considered ancient or extinct huhuhu.

Apa lagi kengkawan meh kita layan bersama sama. Layan...........

For you Azreen - hambik kau!!!

Ouija Board Anyone???

Hm, as usual the main choice for our movie selection is the one with the theme horror - though each time :) & Azzam will be voicing out their disagreement. Well this time around we have chosen another horror movie shown in Cineleisure . But this time out of curiosity we have chosen OUIJA - a Philippines Horror Movie. Though I must admit at first we were a bit sceptical about it. Why? Reason #1 : Never heard or watched any famous horror movies from Philippines. Reason#2 : The Philippines products that are usually shown on the televisions are soap-operas which are very lengthy and stereotype. (I was never really a fan of these soap operas anyway) Reason #3: The guy at the counter did mention thatno one is watching it for that session therefore we will be the only patrons in the cinema. After discussing; we (as in Lorna & I) decided to take a chance with the movie. Apparently, what the guy said was true; we were the only ones watching the movie - well that was what we thought too - until a couple came in right before the start of the movie. A short synopsis if I may "Half-sisters Aileen and Romina, along with first cousins Ruth and Sandra, reunite in Camiguin to bury their grandmother. Accompanied by Sandra’s friend, Lucy, the five girls dare to call on the spirits of the dead when they find their old Ouija board from when they were kids. The Ouija board is burned by accident before they are able to finish the ritual, trapping a murderous entity around them.
As they begin to realize the terror that they have brought upon themselves, Aileen and Romina’s hostile relationship even become more strained, while Lucy’s sanity brings a heavy burden on Sandra, and Ruth’s boyfriend, Gino, is unknowingly pulled into the danger and horror that await all of them.
Confronted by imminent Death, the girls have nowhere to go unless they can identify the spirit and find out where it is buried. It is only by leading the spirit to its burial ground that they will able to release the spirit from theOuija Board and survive its fatal hauntings. - I copy this from wikipedia 100%. I was kinda lazy and therefore cut & paste was all I did.
On my experience watching the movie without strangers around (minus the couple of course) - wallawei best giler!!!! I did actually screamed due to the surprises actions and shots taken through out the movie.

Umbrella Versus Siti Payung :)

I believe all of you readers know the song "Umbrella" was originally sang by Rihanna. To the older generations perhaps they are more into Siti Payung - a classic Ghazal (if I am not mistaken). According to some articles in the internet; the song was actually intended for Britney Spears - no offense to all Spears fans out there but I do thank GOD that she rejected the song. I mean look at how sexy Rihanna was in the video clip but at least she CAN sing. Maybe Britney can beat the sexy thingy but definitely she can't beat the singing huhu.

Well anyway, I heard of a 'softer' version of the song twice - on the radio on my way home & then last Sunday while I was in Jusco Equinne Park on the way meeting my friends from high school. I asked Jai who was singing and he only mentioned about a mixed Japanese-Irish-English singer who made herself famous by singing through the YouTube (I guess its the trend nowadays right). So I search through the Internet - armed with the keyword "Umbrella Cover Version" up till the name Marié Christina Digby appeared on the wikipedia page. Well I'm sure that for those internet savvy out there it will be a piece of cake in finding this new singer, but it took me quite some time but when I eventually "found" her I was so happy. She's quite pretty to begin with and she's so talented if I might add. http://www.myspace.com/mariedigby

I just enjoyed listening to this softer version of hers as it sounded sweeter and more sincere. I mean when you want to tell someone that you love them or you will be their friend forever or you are seriously in a serious feeling with them (does it even make sense?) you would want to make it slow and focus and serious right? Don't get me wrong, Rihanna's version has nothing wrong with it but maybe it is a bot too funky or hippy for some old chap like myself hehehe. that is why I took Marie Digby's version to put it on my blog but then I noticed it stop working after a few weeks. I shall find way to either put it back. I am new to this blogging thingy and so I am still learning on how to have things added to my blogs. So please be patience ok :)

Did anyone notice that Salih Yaakob started singing the Siti Payung in an English version? Its known as Siti Umbrella, duh Umbrella = payung, get it? I know its just for fun but I think it does not give a good impression of c orrect English usage. As I look at media as a medium for learning and entertainment, the stations should aim as a mean to educate Malaysians, youngsters to be exact as the content are catered towards these people. I mean, one can see that my English is not perfect either, but I can assure you that I searched for words which I am uncertain of, just so that I don't send the wrong message across.

My "Ayah", grandfather was a headmaster who taught English during the British Era in Tanah Melayu or Malaya. And he was taught by a British teacher, therefore he can really speak like one even at the age of 8o ++ years now. And my father insisted that we speak English at home as I have growing nephews :). My Bonda and two sisters can speak English very well so basically there are no reason for me not to speak English at home and that is how learn to improve myself.

At times I feel sad when confronted with younger generations who can't even speak basic English for failing to realize how important it is. I mean there are a lot of ways to learn this simple language, we listen to English songs more than we do with Malay songs. At least for me that is, because it seemed that at times I can't even name a few Malay songs or Singers, or is that because I rarely listen to the radio hehehehe

Magazines are fun to read, even if its CLEO or Seventeen. I am taking these magazines as an example because those are the best sellers during my weekend job at BTC. My English 'teacher' The Star on Saturdays!!! Its cheap and very thick and I really enjoyed reading everything and anything, even the business section, though I easily get lost within the words and jargon huhuhu. My favorite column? The Katz Tales of course! I like reading about those adorable cats. Kinda remind me of my two ex-cats Jebab and Mac. I miss having cats around, but rest assured. Once I have my own house I shall have cats cats and more cats wakakakakaka.

Well, anyway back to the topic. I think it would be good to have one extra language other than your mother tongue. Even now the government are encouraging people to take up third language, Mandarin as it is the widely used language around the globe.

...Which kinda remind me that I haven't listen to those Mandarin subject cassettes for a long time now. Where could have I misplaced those cassettes? I think I oughta stop blogging and start searching now. Don't worry I will be back once I found those cassettes :)

Selamatkan Sufiah?!

Dalam kehangatan topik perbualan rakyat Malaysia yang berkisarkan gosip perkhabaran "Pak Lah Meletak Jawatan";

Math Prodigy at 13 is now a £130-an-hour - Begitulah tajuk suratkhabar utama di Britain yang mememaparkan gambar Sufiah dulu dan kini.

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/3003_hooker.shtml SHE was a child maths genius who won a place at Oxford University aged just 13—but now the only sums Sufiah Yusof is interested in are the ones she earns as a HOOKER.
For sad Sufiah the daily equation she has to solve is simply sex equals £130 as she sells her body to punters over the internet.
The gifted girl with the winning smile had the world at her feet ten years ago and should be a rich woman by now—but last week she was busy subtracting her underwear for our undercover reporter in her dingy back street flat.
"Would you like to start your half hour now?" said Sufiah, 23, as she danced on the bed, displaying her body for examination.
Then she listed all the sleazy plus points she would throw in for our man if he took up her offer.
Calling herself Shilpa Lee, the former child prodigy still juggles with figures on a hookers' website, describing herself as a "very pretty size 8, 32D bust and 5'5" tall—available for booking every day from 11am to 8pm."
She says she is a "sexy, smart student" who prefers "older gentlemen"— but a former pal who has witnessed her downfall told us: "It is all desperately heartbreaking.
"With her amazing brain she should be able to make money any way she wants. But instead her life has spiralled completely out of control."
Life has never quite added up for Sufiah. Her descent into prostitution in Salford, Manchester, is the latest in a long line of tragedies to have engulfed her since the sunny day when she posed with her university mortar board for the world's press outside prestigious St Hilda's College

Our shock revelations today come in the week her domineering dad Farooq was jailed for sexually assaulting two 15-year-old girls as he home-tutored them in maths.
And he was always at the root of all her troubles— even as she passed the further maths A-Level she needed for entry to Oxford at the age of 12. In those days Sufia was a strict Muslim child who prayed five times a day and was subjected to her father's famous Accelerated Learning Technique.
Her days involved stretching and breathing exercises in freezing rooms to keep her brain attentive.
Sufiah would then study hard and be forced to play tennis with just as much intensity as fanatical Farooq drove her on. The routine was so effective Sufiah was seeded number eight in the country for under 21s.
But three years into Oxford, the 15-year-old sparked a massive police hunt after running away.
Abuse
At the time her father bizarrely claimed Sufiah had been kidnapped and brainwashed by an organisation seeking the key to her intelligence.
But Sufiah sent an email to her family describing her life under her father as a "living hell".

One message to her sister read: "I've finally had enough of 15 years of physical and emotional abuse. You know what I am talking about."
Sufiah was missing for two weeks before being found in an internet café in Bournemouth where she had been working as a hotel waitress.
She refused to go back to her parents and instead was taken into the care of social services.
It was then revealed that Farooq had been jailed for three years in 1992 for his part in a £1.5m mortgage swindle. Before that—at the age of 19—he had been sent to borstal for his role in a conspiracy involving £100,000.
Free from the spell of her father, Sufiah returned to Oxford to complete the final year of her Masters in Maths.
But she was now more concerned with enjoying herself—and failed to finish the course after meeting trainee lawyer Jonathan Marshall.
They were married in 2004 when Sufiah was just 19 and Jonathan 24. But the strains with her family were still there.
Despite being invited, Sufiah's parents and four brothers and sisters failed to turn up to the wedding.
Her dreams of a happy life with Jonathan were shattered when the couple divorced just a year later

Now, in her sad little flat, she uses her body to pay the rent. Sufiah met our man, posing as a punter, at the entrance to her building wearing a tiny skirt, leather boots and a tight t-shirt. She was carrying three mobile phones.
She laughed and joked as she led him to her small apartment where a bed was already set out in the lounge.
She told him it was £130 an hour and offered him a glass of water before putting some music on to a cheap portable stereo and nervously stripping down to her red lace bra and knickers.
Sufiah then peeled off her underwear and danced on the bed. She told him she did full sex with a condom and oral sex without protection.
After our man had made his excuses, Sufiah kept him talking by telling him how she was studying for a Masters degree in Economics on a part-time two year course in London.
The former prodigy added: "I've got exams coming up and I'm thinking ‘Oh my God!'"
Once described by her parents as "naïve and unstreetwise", she works alone from her flat without any obvious physical security or protection.
She even admitted to our reporter: "It's always a surprise who you are going to meet."
Cheerful Sufiah gave no indication of any sadness at the jailing of her father the previous day. On Wednesday Farooq, 50, was sentenced to 18 months at Coventry Crown Court for touching two 15-year-old girls when he was home tutoring them at maths.

At times I do envy these child prodigy because they are smart and everything seemed all planned out for their future, a certain future I mean. As compared to us who at times are struggling to even think about our future, an uncertainty. But then the pressure mounted up as a lot more is expected from them and this is a case that went bad. Somehow I get the feeling that she was being pressured to live up the idea of child prodigy which both her elder brother and sister refused to accept (I read that those two rather play tennis than being pressured). She got married and got divorce - the marriage might be due to having someone who can protect her from what ever it is that is pressuring her. I pity her, but then again with gift comes responsibility right? And God shall not impose things which you can not handle. But the key word is turn to HIM for support and guidance :)

I wish you well Sufiah :) and may God bless you always my dear.

Evening Day Blues For Me

Well, Lorna was on MC and so its just me & Baizura today. Us ladies are considered near-to-extinction species for the Evening Shift here in the office. Or shall I say the endangered species - it sounds better doesn't it? Considering that we are quite dangerous at times wakakakaka. Baizura was a bit concern as she knows that I normally spend my dinner time at the pantry with Lorna - but I told her not to worry as I have some things to do - which is updating my blog and therefore I won't feel all alone. Kelly Clarkson is here singing to me. :) I like her singing soooooooooooo very much. Suddenly the subject of my-ex came to mind - Kak Nina informed me a few months ago that he is to get married in March. So I guess he is now a happily married man. Good for him. Yes its true I can not forget him. Well, FYI I am not with amnesia you know. So whatever that has happened and whoever so that has crossed my mind are not easily forgotten especially in "extra-special" cases hehehehe.

I met him through the internet (yeah yah cliche - I saw that cynical smile but never mind I'll let it pass this time). We started out as friends. He had a girlfriend of 7 years but had to break up coz his mother doesn't like her - a complicated family affair situation I must say. They were somehow related. He was too weak in defending the relationship- I should have seen it coming but what do I know I was to blind (and not to mentioned stupid that time). Then his mom introduced him to another girl - a surprise awaits me; I know the girl! She was my "kakak angkat" during my high school. I was even the volunteered "Posto Girl" between her and her then BF. What a small world.

I know that the relationship between him and me was not meant to be because I am a true believer that guy should start first or in a different way of saying - to propose. But in this case it was me! Sigh, I do not know...but all I know is that I really loved him very very much and I just wanna be by his side. And so I popped the question during Ramadhan after a special night after a special occasion and after a special plea with God :) I do have normal conversational session with my God as HE had promised each and every one of us that HE will always be there for us.

I thought it was a bad move because he kept quiet for few days and I thought "You are such an idiot girl! You have had a nice friendship and relationship and you have done a very good job at destroying it"! At least that is what I thought before he called to say that he accepted it :) There were things which he have said to me on that night that I still remember and still make me smile till today. But if you don't mind, I would like to keep it to myself :)

Well, time flies and honestly no one spoke about breaking up but I noticed we were getting far apart in every aspect. Even when I was with him, he would talk about that 'kakak' I mentioned up there and also about the girl his mother was interested in, to match make with him. And that point of time, I was still his girl friend! Like I said, no one said anything about breaking up.

I was really heart broken, because he is (yes it's a present tense and not past tense - for some reason) my first love. Honestly, after that incident, I can only look at guys as friends and not more than that. Its very hard for me to comprehend but yes, friends is all it is. Its not that I forced myself to avoid relationships but I did not see anyone with the same feeling I had when I was with him. Pathetic, yup indeed I was and perhaps I still am. I do not know what's the future holds for me but I do know that HE is with me along the way :)

To be continued...

Malam yang Suram

Hm, two of my faithful passengers are now in the sleepy state & mind you; it's not even midnight yet! Well, to those who are not yet familiar with our working hours, its 4pm - 1am. So normally one would expect us to be sleepy around midnight. But I can see that Lorna is not feeling well - she's been coughing along the way to work just now. Jai was lying at the back seat of the car just now. We took a longer route since the traffic was rather congested from One Utama and since it was raining we dare not used the LDP highway. We did once and there was a small flood over at the Western Digital area heading towards the LDP Toll and because of that we arrived half an hours late to the office. We arrived late today, but not as late as if we were to use the LDP highway. I was late about 15 minutes, Lorna & Jai about 10 minutes. Why was it different? Because I usually dropped them up at the entrance and went to look for a parking. There's a parking up the main entrance; but its either meant for the MSC's Visitors or reserved. I have to park my car along the main road and then moved my car to a nearer spot during my break time at about 715pm. Yup that's how it goes everyday of my working life here in Cyberjaya hehehehe.

As for me, I was not really sleepy. Not even tired. I am not sure if its due to my "oversleeping schedule" or the Power Root Per'l Cafe Kacip Fatimah which my Bonda gave it to me a few days ago. FYI , my Bonda informed me that she just wanna have a taste of the Tongkat Ali Cafe that was in the Per'l Cafe's package. Those who is a regular drinker of the Power Root series of herbal drinks would notice that in each package there will be an extra 2 sachets of other herbal products of the same company. A good way of promoting the rest of the herbal drinks in the Power Root products if I may say so. Well, it certainly got my Bonda into purchasing it right? And Bonda did say something to add to it - "Ibu pergi PERNAMA tak tahu nak beli apa jadi Ibu belilah benda ni, tapi Ibu cuma nak rasa yang 2 paket tu ajer sebenarnya." Women and buying power hehehehehe. Hey, I ain't complaining coz I got free drinks right? I think this one tastes better than the canned cafe. Normally I would buy the canned Power Root Per'l Kacip Fatimah with honey & dates. Power Roots suits my taste. But my Bonda enjoys the Orang Kampung brand more than I do. I don't mind drinking herbal drinks........as long as it doesn't taste like one. Yeah yeah I know - I am a weirdo so sue me :)

Well, its almost the end of the week, and not to mentioned the end of the month. A good thing is that its nearing the PAYDAY, yeah bebeh!!! The drawback - I don't think I will be able to recover from my drop-flat accuracy. It came down from a 97 -ish% to a mere 91%. Wallawei a dramatic drop man! Sob sob sob sedih tu. Well, have to gear up for next month now. Or else there goes the monthly bonus - kaching! Yea, saya mata duitan wakakakaka

As the title said so, I end it with a good rest and sleep :)

The Shutter

I resumed the activity of watching my favorite genre movie, horror aka ghosts stories. This time I am targeted "The Shutter", a Thailand horror movie. Maybe I am stressed and I need to DE-stressed myself by scaring myself. Does that even make sense hahahaha I don't think so.

As usual the hanging place was the Cine Leisure Movie theater. And so the movie begins....showing a couple meeting with an accident. One which the GF was convinced that she had ran over a girl. But the plot thickens when the BF's BFF all died in a horrific way shortly after the incident. The GF was very much sure that they were haunted by the girl whom she had ran over but was clueless as to who it was.

After much investigation, the 'ghost' happens to be the BF's ex college mate and ex-GF. But the girl had committed suicide after he decided to end their relationship. A shocking experience for them when they found out that the body of the girl was laid to decompose on her own bed in her house, when they came to share their experience with the girl's mother. After a proper burial, the GF was pretty much sure that they will be left alone only to find that more secrets are to be revealed by the 'ghost'.

A camera was found bearing pictures of the ex-GF aka 'ghost' being raped by the BF's BFF, and the person who actually took the picture was the BF himself! What the hell! That is so cruel wei, and not to mention heartless!!! It happens that the 'ghost' was once an awkward young lady who does not socialize that much and the BF was so embarrassed that he refused to tell his friends and even decided to break up with the poor girl. And when she threatened to commit suicide he went and told his friends. That's when they decided to rape the girl and asked him to take the pictures to keep the girl quiet.

I pity the girl very much. I mean she was really in love with the guy and out of embarrassment he just decided to go along with his friend's plan. Suckers! By the way, all along the guy was actually having a severe neck pain and on the same night that the GF left him (she decided to do so after knowing what the BF had done) he decided to take pictures of the room he was in, trying to look for the 'ghost'. And guess what, the 'ghost' was actually sitting on his shoulder all the time, hence the neck pain.

Pergh awesome revenge if I may say so. In the end he was admitted in an institute, for nutcase, I think and as the ex-GF left the room after visiting, you can actually see the 'ghost' in the mirror, still clinging to his shoulder.

I know that separation and break ups are very painful and can at times be a burden on your shoulder. But I had never thought it to be this way :). Literally portraying the "burden on the shoulder". Well, this movie is good enough for me. I like it very much and I honestly think its a good horror movie :)

Bahalol & Monyet

Hm, as we were standing at the Borders Booth at The Curve Councourse Area CT Yam came over. Why am I not surprised? Christine came slightly earlier that very same day. For all of you readers out there, Christine & Ct Yam makes a slightly weird twin if I can say so - well this is my blog right? So I can definitely say so hehehehe. Ct Yam used to be our CO and Christine was my manager. They usually teamed together going to the banks early in the mornings of the shifts. Christine is a "Rebel" kinda manager. A gangho - I believe that's the word the Chinese usually used to describe these type of people. Normal youngsters slanga will be "Otai" I guess. Remember my "Tongue Clashing" with that Chinese customer who accused me of being racist? Christine stood by me even when those couples called her "Bitch". She stood by my side through and through. She even stood by my decision not to apologize to the &&&&&& ***-#### customer. I liked to tease her by speaking in Malay. Its not that she does not understand its just that when we talked too fast; she easily got lost in the conversation. "Aiyah, what are you guys talking about"? She would be asking me. And I would continue teasing her - "La Boss, if I kutuk you in English it will be no fun lah cause you would be able to understand me wouldn't you? Hehehehe."

"Aiyah, so bad lah this girl," She would say, before turning to go away and make herself busy helping us out at the Register usually. Well, eventually those two have plans to meet up for a short while & now Ct Yam is stranded here at The Curve. Well, anyway back to the current situation

Ct Yam asked me out of the blue "Kak, akak ada krisis ke dengan Kak I**?" That question sorta caught me by surprised.
"Why", I asked.

"Takderlah saya YM dia, dia tak jawab. Mesej pun tak reply," she answered me nicely.

"So what makes you think that it has got anything to do with me," I asked her back. Knowing CT Yam, she will try her best to not to tell what she heard until I informed her of my side of the story.

"Hari tu saya ada datang beli buku lepas tu Kak I** suruh Margaret shelve buku semula. Dia ada sebut lebih kurangnya macam ginilah, "Entah monyet tu hendak ker tak hendak entah." Saya pun tanyalah siapa monyet Kak I**. Dia kata kakak engkaulah. Saya tanya siapa, dia sebut nama akak. Tu yang saya tanya tu."

"Entahlah Ct Yam, akak pun tak reti nak cakap. Tapi memang akak adalah lawan cakap dia dan macam biasa barangsiapa yang lawan cakap dia akan di anggap musuh," I replied back. I was actually tired of her nonsense charade actually.

"Yealah, macam mana boleh jadi macam tu kak," asked CT Yam wanting to know the story. Well, I don't blame her either.

"Ada satu weekend tu akak kerja di atas dengan Jimi, Zana MC so tinggal kami berdua ajer. Akak ajak Jimi pergi makan sekali. Dah pukul 2 petang tu Kak I** call, tanya akak tak reti-reti nak turun? Akak jawab sekejaplah kak, budak petang tak naik lagi. Then akak turun dengan Jimi and the 3 of us walked to the Teh Tarik Place. Tengah berjalan tu akak teringat yang dia ada benda dia nak cerita pagi tu tapi tak sempat sebab masing masing ada kerja, so akak pun tanyalah dia "Apa yang akak nak cerita pagi tadi kak?" Tiba tiba dia jawab dengan nada bengang "Malas nak cerita bukan boleh percaya sangat mulut mulut orang nih, ada ajer nak menyampai karang. Malas nak percaya orang - lebih kurang macm itulah dia cakap. Akak tersentaklah kan, akak terasa macam dia tujukan dekat Jimi pulak; sebab yelah memang dari pagi tadi dia nak cerita pada akak kan, takkan dia sound akak pulak. Akak diam ajer lagi.

Dulu memang kerap jugak kami buat, tapi lepas tu IT hentikan. Bolehlah suggest dekat dia semula nak buat balik aktiviti tu." Tetiba dia membentak naik suara dengan akak, nak marah marah "Tulah korang buat benda main buat ajer, nanti esok esok dia membebel dekat aku jugak. Penatlah nak dengar dia membebel!"

Akak jawablah balik,"Kalau akak tak nak dengar dia membebel janganlah layan dia. Sebab akak nak dengar, dia membebel lah dengan akak. Dengan kita orang takder pun dia membebel. Sebab kitaorang tak layan."

"Ko jawab senang lah - IT tu sampai ke mana pun dia cari akak kalau nak bercerita. Dah tak boleh nak elak," dia jawab.

"Kalau akak tak nak dengar dia membebel, akak beritahu dia yang akak tak mahu dengar dia membebel. Akak cakap aja, tapi dengar jugak," terus kami tak bercakap lagi dah. Akak dengan Jimi plan nak makan roti canai tapi bila kenang kena tunggu lama nak menantikan roti canai sampai, kami sanggup beratur nak amik nasi. Orang tak sukalah masam masam muka menghadap rezeki, suwei tahu. Lepas tu dia terus tak mahu bercakap dengan akak. Akak pulak pergi mampus lah kan, kau suka suka herdik orang tak heranlah kalau orang pun menjauhkan diri dari kau.

Dia kalau bercakap asyik nak mengherdik ajer kerjanya - tak boleh ker cakap elok-elok. Apa mak bapak dia lupa ker hapa nak ajar adap sopan. Padahal dah berkeluarga dah tu. Budak budak tak cukup umur kau nak herdik herdik bolehlah, dengan orang dah berumur macam hamba ini - sekali dua bolehlah sabar tapi kalau dah kerap jadi meluat jugak.

Well CT Yam just smiled, she knows that as bad tempered as I am I shall not shout at people for no reason. That's crazy. But I told her its ok, once she has come back to her senses she will be fine. "Layan kan jer CT Yam and just don't talk about it. Let it past" and she smiles at me :)

Come to think about it, the three monkey policy "Speak no evil, see no evil and hear no evil" hehehehe. I can't and refused to be surrounded by negative vibes. Not good for the brain and soul, but I must admit that its very difficult to stay away from it as it happens everywhere and anywhere. So please help me God :) please help to push away all the bad things that might affect me negatively, Amin :)

Pilihanraya 2008

This is only through my observation of the current thing that I have read or listen through the mass media. Not a smooth start in my opinion.

Tambah buruk lagi dengan hujah berdegar degar BN yang terdesak sungguh mahu menawan Kelantan - hingga terus menjayakan rancangan penubuhan Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. Setelah setengah abad Merdeka baru kini Kerajaan Pusat mengambil berat soal pendidikan anak-anak Kelantan? Bukankah nampak kesungguhan Kerajaan Pusat menganak-tirikan Kelantan? Hutang 1Bilion Kelantan? Hm, pelik bunyinya kan? Kenapa pelik?

Ibarat menjawab soalan peperiksaan - You don't aswer what you know but instead you answer according to the questions.

Yup, especially you Zul :)

Lain kali untuk cerita yang lain pula

Office Politics

Hm, I don't really remember the exact date when I actually knew the politic thingy that happened in the office. All I remember was it was on a Saturday morning and after the morning's briefing I went to the "Kids Heaven" to do my work as usual. Then as the store almost opened, a staff asked me "Akak dah dengar cerita pasal Sang Kancil?" "Which one?" I asked. I do know there's a few stories in regards with the Malacca's mascot. The staff looked at me puzzled. "Cerita Sang Kancil?""Yelah, yang mana satu? Kan ker banyak cerita Sang Kancil?"I asked again. "Oh, akak tak tahu ker? Tak tahu takperlah. Ingatkan akak dah tahu. Tak mahulah cerita." Ok, this I don't like. A half way story which left me clueless. So, I asked her again whats its all about. The staff hesitated before proceeding with the story (after I "pujuk" her slowly to share the story with me). Well here it goes-----

"Kami ada buat karangan dalam folder kak. Kami namakan Sang Kancil. Bendanya macam sambung sambung ayat jadikan ceritalah. Cerita pasal macam macam segala apa pun lah, banyaknya pasal benda dalam store lah."

"Simpan dalam folder?", I asked. The staff nodded. Hm, such an un-wise move, don't you agree?

"Tapi entah macam mana Boss boleh dapat tahu'" the staff continued.

"La, dah simpannya pun dalam PC store memanglah dia boleh tahu. Korang pun agak agaklah kan?" I said. Obviously if you are saving something inside the PC which is accessible to everyone, its not a miracle if the Boss managed to find it.

"Tapi kami dah delete benda tu sehari sebelum Boss masuk kerja."

"And you think that management could not find a way to detect it?"

"Boleh detect ker benda dah delete kak?"

"Entah yea, akak pun tak tahu sebenarnya. Tapi from what I heard; you can trace the things from the deletion bin. Tak tahulah betul ker tidak." The staff just nodded. What happen next?"I asked.

"Kami kena panggil beramai ramai kak. Mengadap lah kena tegur Boss. Tapi yang agak kecik hati tu, macam kami ni tak buat kerja langsung. yang sorang tu di puji puji yang lain di tegur teruk. Mana boleh macam itu. Sya ni tiap tiap pagi meng"alpha" tempat saya, tapi de"generalize"kan tak buat kerja. Saya faham lah yang sorang tu memang di puji tapi dalam Islam pun ada kata seorang ibu kalau nak puji anak dia kena secara personal supaya anak yang lain tidak kecil hati". I just smiled.

"Well, dia pun bukan ibu kita kan? Tak semua orang pun tahu konsep tu. Seeloknya biar tegur dan puji secara general. Kalau ada rasa nak tegur atau puji secara perseorangan, seeloknya biar disediakan teguran & pujian untuk setiap individu yang terlibat dengan perjumpaan itu. Supaya takder yang terasa hati. Tidaklah nampak sangat seolah olah kita melebihkan orang yang tertentu. Itu pendapat akaklah kan. Tapi still akak rasa memang korang salahlah. Salah konsep nak mengumpat & mengutuk. Kenapa mesti nak tulis dan tinggalkan dalam folder? Kenapa biarkan diri korang terlalu vulnerable. Memang macam korang sengaja nak biarkan diri kena marah. Saja biar orang cari peluang untuk mencari salah korang. Dah tahu selalunya orang beranggapan yang di atas tak sesibuk di bawah, you guys kena selalu make your place better or perfect. Tak mahu senggang senggang sangat."

What more can I say? I am not supposed to side with any party here. I remembered Big Boss's advise- come to work, be happy then go back happily. Don't get involved with the office politics. Why? Because it seems there are some people who enjoys twisting my words to their advantage. Not saying anyone but Big Boss did remind me that it had happen, so I should be extra careful with what I say and to whom I say it.

Later when more staffs came in, I heard more "Luahan Hati". Too many that it can by itself turn into a novel plot. Interested to know? Cheh, I knew it. People sure like to listen and take part in gossips huh? How shall I begin, seems like everyone is voicing their dissatisfaction. But I think its because they trusted me..or because they know that I may as blunt as telling these people off. Hmm I am not really sure about that. But I do know that as a senior staff I need to calm them down and try to knock some senses in these younger generations.

So far my slow talk seemed to be able to calm them down and make them think about the rationale of doing things...and not get caught doing it. Simple mantra of mine "Please everyone and you please no one". So kids, its ok to have make a blunder and learn from it ok :)

As a lesson learn, avoid office politics and be careful. Take care of yourself, especially yourself dear people :)

Saturday with Jane Austen & Catherine Anderson

Azrin could not make it for the morning shift last Saturday. Her car refuses to start & since it is an automatic transmission car - nothing much I can advice. I know that for manual transmission cars, you can have someone pushing your car & putting it in 2nd gear and slowly letting go of the clutch. Eventually she has left the car for three days, opting to go back to her hometown in Muar by bus. It is after all middle of the month and I believe all of us needs to carefully spend our money in order for us to be able to survive until pay day which is at the end of the month. ;) Going home to Muar by bus seems to be the best option doesn't it? You pay about RM25 & everything is taken care of. If you were to drive, then you have to think of the petrol & toll, and not to mention servicing your car before you can drive it back home for the long journey. Well, not to say that just because you are not going anywhere far you don't have to service your car but calculating everything needed for the long trip, you might not have enough budget for a one shot payment, right?

Well, for me, I make sure I send my car for inspection almost every month. Well, :) has a cousin who works for Honda Services. So, I usually send my car to him for inspections & opinions related. He will advice on what needs to be done accordingly from the most critical to the less. Well, for ladies its kinda easier if you get second opinion before sending your car for services to any workshop; unless of course you are already familiar with a particular workshop or mechanic. Like going to the same workshop your father sends his car to etc. Why? Because male dominant vehicle service industry tends to treat us as dumb blondes when it comes to anything related to cars or any vehicles for that matters. They will ask you to change and service anything & everything there is on the engine. Obviously I will not have enough budget if everything needs to be done in one shot won't I? So that's what I usually do.

Well, Azrin is carefully calculating her budget as she just moved into a new rental apartment. Both her & Zura (her housemate) just paid for the deposit & still looking for a third occupant. A few candidates seems to be interested; but eventually changed their mind last minute. There was one time; both of them took leave just to help accommodate the new so-called-interested candidate. But at the end; she just called to inform that she could not make it. What a waste of their Annual Leave. There was even a girl who called up in the middle of the night asking about the house but then called back at 2 AM to cancel it. Well, anyone who needs a room in Kota Damansara area feel free to drop a line - I'll sent your message to Azrin & Zura and see how it goes. Not to worry, they are a bit psychotically insane, with a bit temperamental due to stress of work. Other than that, they are fun loving creatures who has a strong sense of friendship.

Well, anyway. Since according to the schedule, 1st Floor staff is more than enough I was placed on the Ground Floor - as the cashier. Ala, its been a while since my last experience at the Register. Well, my guess is that management assumed that senior staff is more competent to be placed at the Registers on weekends & public holidays - to accommodate the crowd ;). Then just before noon; a Chinese lady came over with three books & a credit card. She placed them all on the counter & called someone through her cell phone. As I scanned the price; I checked the title of the book just to double confirm - and to my surprise the priced that was stated on the sticker did not at all match the titles of the book cover. Those were Catherine Anderson's book with Jane Austen's Penguin Classics price stickers. Yup, all three of them. There were also indications that the stickers had been tampered with. I paged for my manager & the Chinese Lady panicked. She quickly asked if there were problems with the pricing (how would she have known it if she weren't doing something fishy right?) & then quickly snatched her credit card and running out of the store saying that she was in a hurry. My manager was still blur as she was in the middle of inspecting the books when she ran out of the store. My only regret is that I did not keep the credit card near to me so that she would not have been able to snatch it and run. Why? Erk, hello there's a name printed on the card right? I surely would like to have the name & lodge a written report to our management. Or better still, put her name in my blog. ;) My manager went straight inside the office to check the CCTV. He informed me that the lady sure spent a lot of time at a remote area tampering the stickers. And he will highlight the matter to the upper management level.

I know there are a lot of people out there who thinks book sellers are dumb, school drop out, etc. Thinking they can easily be intimidated by these so-called highly intellectual creatures with attitude. But they are not. Most bookstores that I know are actually hiring undergraduates, especially in so-called elite area. And they are even trained to handle almost any issues. So, better think twice before actually doing something bad not to mention stupid in the store. Well, other than that everything seems fine I guess. The story telling session, or should I say Story Reading session was not with a big crowd. Quite only a few people actually. It seems that Saturday was with a little crowd in the store. Let the Story Reader spent time with the kids while I continue what I was doing earlier on. Azrin went to hear some briefing from the Supreme Supervisor. I could not care less. I might as well ask Azrin later on. Talk and talk and more talk will contribute to less and lesser and lesser job done.

I am only here during the weekends and I had better get things done as much as possible. Less time for gossip and no time to loiter around. Plus it seems It-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named seems to be in her comfort zone with beloved younger sister who will be leaving in March. In the mean time It-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named seems to find happily find faults with other or making the rest feels as if they are worthless. Hm, good job It-Who-Must-Not Be-Named! Bravo, good enough you are spending more time with your beloved while us the "Machai" are doing the work, clearly showing your favoritism towards your litle sister, showing your supreme power clearly; showing the staff how hopeless they are by finding their faults - a swell job don't you agree?

Maybe IT ought to learn a few thing or two from IT's father since, IT does come from a socialite family. Act like one. Learn the leadership skill IT's father possesses. IT's father is a well known figure and highly respected by the community so a lot of things can be learned even though just by observing. Bapa Borek Anak Rintik - doesn't apply to IT I guess. Well, this is based on what I heard. Yup, I "kena" already and since then I just kept it to myself. If anything needs to be done I'll straight away inform Kak Zue as my Manager. As what my Store Manger would remind me, I am only here during the weekends so enjoy myself and try to have less stress and less gossips around the office. That surely what I am gonna do. Meet my friends over there while working and enjoying myself is certainly what I aimed to do. I'll be there to listen to their cries over what happen, but I'll just keep my comments to myself. For one thing, you can not be too sure on whom you can trust. But to you guys, hang on it there friends. Not all upper management are like It. So don't worry be happy ok? ;)

Well, another thing that we are planning; is the convoy to Ida's wedding this 9th of March. But the program might be disrupted by the unexpectedly announced election day which falls on the 8th of March. I have registered to vote in Ulu Tiram Johor Bharu. My beloved hometown, which I haven't been to in about almost a year. Hm, it is time for me to the perform my responsibility for my country and nation. Hmm, so poyo yes I know. :) So far, me, :), Zul, Azzam, Kak Iza & hubby and Ying Ying have confirmed our attendance. Theme color will be purple. Lucky me as I have already 2 pairs of purple baju kurung :). Now needs to find new tudung, it's been ages since I last bought any new tudung. I have been so stingy with my budget for tudung, I think now is the time to buy some more for my own collection :).

We are planning to go on 2 separate cars, but if there are more to join then perhaps three then; Kak Iza's Red Viva, My Perawan Gold Iswara & Ying Ying Green Kancil. If not enough attendees; then just 2 cars then. Text Lai Wah but as usual, that former boss of mine; still keeping quiet. Ever since Chinese New Year... ker dia yang dah nak kahwin hehehehe. Its all between us, nothing involving others. Planned by me & beloved Kak Iza, so we do the invitations and confirmation for the attendees. Others can go, by themselves that is. So far that is all the people that planned to go anyway. I most probably will be bringing Ira as that marks the beginning of school holidays. She just went back to MRSM last Monday and the school holiday is coming already?! Its either time flies extremely fast or I am beginning to slow down hehehe. Dah tua lah kawan. Well, anyway. Most likely I will be taking a weekend off to spend time with my little sister. Poor girl, I have been too busy to even spend time with her.

My Babah & Bonda will be going to the Philippines & Vietnam for a week. Instead of sending Ira to Johor, as my Babah are positively sure she will not be doing her school work, she'll be spending her time with me in Sungai Besi. I will be spending my time there for a week. Will be going to & from work from Sungai Besi then. Then I have to cook. Oh no, I hope she can managed my cooking. With my cooking, one needs to have a super extra immunity system hehehe. Or else God knows what will happen. I am tougher because of my cooking you know. Well, we'll see what its like later. Have to plan my spending as well. Already missing my little sister here. Sob sob sob

Weekends

I took leave on Friday. I need to send my car for service, as I will be sending Ira back to her hostel in Batu Pahat. Takder kereta, patah kaki jugaklah rasanya. Went to CIMB to deposit money for a friend who helped to buy the battery for my car. When we went around asking for battery prices; it ranges up until RM270. Pergh, its kinda too expensive for me. So a friend managed to buy a battery for a slightly cheaper price. I mean like, its the same thing; same brand why should I be paying for more. Hm, everything is increasing -meaning the PRICE that is. Price of oil increases, price of food increases, price of highway increases (toll that is) etc. The list goes on and on and on. The one thing that is not increasing - salary. Boo hoo hoo. :(

As I was there, I might as well ask for the personal loan procedures. I thought of applying for personal loan mainly to settle my phone bills with Telekom. Another 2k to go. It was during the time when I was staying with my sister, but since she is having financial problem (not to say that I don't), I might as well try to settle it by myself. I can't be waiting and asking for it every month, can I? The phone line was under my name and so the summon was written to me. I need to clear it because a letter by the lawyer indicates difficulties in future for loan applications etc. Yeah, I know, some will question my personal loan application to pay for my phone bill will increase my credits. But seriously I can still afford to pay small amount of RM as compared to settle the lump sum amount at one shot. Hehehehe, I already have 3 previous loans that I am still paying. Study loan, car loan & FaMo loan - Father & Mother loan :). the the officer by the name of Yati ( well, I call her Kak Yati out of respect) offered me credit card services as well. Hehehehe I am interested with only the CIMB Petronas Credit Card - from her explanation; up to RM50 discounts on petrol per month. Well to those who uses lot more petrol than I am perhaps the RM50 rebate doesn't worth that much. But to a person like me, who is stingy and tries to save whatever I can; that offer sure sounds ok. There is no annual fee which is good. I mean why pay for a credit card which you don't normally use (save your raised eyebrow for later part of my blog ok). I asked the mode of payment; the interest rate etc. Just to ensure that having credit won't trap me into more and more debt like what it did to a colleague. Every day receiving a call from the bank; regardless at what time of the day sure ain't good. I kept thinking why would the bank kept calling & haunting? Really scares me of wanting to have a credit card. Then I found that IT didn't pay the minimum payment required each month from the bank. No wonder the bank kept haunting. Well, people don't usually tell the whole stories right? Especially if it embarrasses themselves. Well, I just signed the credit card application forms anyway. I am not even sure if it will be approved.

Then I went to Maybank to update my bank book. I have learn my lesson. waiting too long & the transactions will be summarized; & then it will be harder for me to track whatever transaction that I have made. Especially now when I have started to use Maybank2u.Com. Yeah yeah I know, others are now experts at using Maybank2u.Com while I am still "crawling" (direct translation from Bahasa Melayu's merangkak-rangkak). As I was there, I asked about the Petronas Credit Card. Unfortunately it was only meant for those with minimum salary of 2k. So, instead they offer me the Flex card which has no annual fees imposed for the service (I think Flex stands for Flexible). It needs to be swiped at least twice a month regardless of the amount or they will charge you the service charge of RM 3.95 per month. Sounds good, and plus my salary goes into my Maybank account so definitely it will be easier for me to settle my credit card payment. I had intended to use Citibank Shell Credit Card earlier, but I was informed that the interest rate for Citibank Credit Card was slightly higher than other banks. Hm, I don't think its wise for me to do that.

I think credit card, pretty much like what cell phone used to be; is now a necessity. People used to think that those with cell phones are just show offs - well if you are always seen with the latest cell phones all the time; then perhaps indeed you are a show off. But then again, if you can afford it and you have nowhere else to spend your money lavishly - why not. I have had my share of the experience not having enough cash when I need to buy my new battery for the car. But I like they way the credit card consultants at both banks handled my inquiries and their concerns with the credit card concept for my clear understanding. Credit card is definitely not how you are lavishly spending your money (but you ARE spending the bank's money & later paying them back) with an interest if you failed to pay on time with the minimum amount required. That is what most people failed to understand. They make sure I understand the responsibility of having a credit card. A good advice I must say. For an emergency situation, a credit card is very much needed.

Once everything was settled, I went home, cooked some lunch, sweep the house, wash the clothes - well, actually the washing machine did most of the jobs on my behalf :). I love my old washing machine :) After all has been done, I took a nap. Replacing all my loss sleeps due to overworked huhuhu At about 3pm I received a message from Kak Yani informing me that due to HIGH SUSPECTS my leave application for this Monday 18th of February was rejected. Ala, I wish I was informed earlier so that I can try to apply for a swap of Leave since I managed to obtained the leave today. Drats. I had planned to send Ira back to MRSM this Monday. Damn damn damn!!!

Happy Valentine's Day :)

Today is 14th of February (Malaysian Time is 8:16 AM) & so its Happy Valentine's Day to all!!!!! Now what is Valentine's Day? How it all started? How is it celebrated? What is so special about Valentine's Day? Well, lets see what can I come up with through my search on the net.

From this website - http://www.history.com/

Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

While some believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial -- which probably occurred around 270 A.D -- others claim that the Christian church may have decided to celebrate Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to 'christianize' celebrations of the pagan Lupercalia festival. In ancient Rome, February was the official beginning of spring and was considered a time for purification. Houses were ritually cleansed by sweeping them out and then sprinkling salt and a type of wheat called spelt throughout their interiors. Lupercalia, which began at the ides of February, February 15, was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at the sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would then sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification.
The boys then sliced the goat's hide into strips, dipped them in the sacrificial blood and took to the streets, gently slapping both women and fields of crops with the goathide strips. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed being touched with the hides because it was believed the strips would make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city's bachelors would then each choose a name out of the urn and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage. Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine's Day around 498 A.D. The Roman 'lottery' system for romantic pairing was deemed un-Christian and outlawed. Later, during the Middle Ages, it was commonly believed in France and England that February 14 was the beginning of birds' mating season, which added to the idea that the middle of February -- Valentine's Day -- should be a day for romance. The oldest known valentine still in existence today was a poem written by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt. The greeting, which was written in 1415, is part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London, England. Several years later, it is believed that King Henry V hired a writer named John Lydgate to compose a valentine note to Catherine of Valois.

Well, I think it will be helpful to know the history before actually celebrating it. Why? Because I am a Muslim (btw have you read a book of the same title written by Dina Zaman? A cool author who speaks sincerely of her mind about the things surrounding her). Reading from the history mentioned, one cannot help but to make a conclusion regarding the main important basic for the celebration of Valentine's Day. It was first celebrated to honour the 3 saints who fought for the glory of Christianity.

So what are we actually celebrating when we say we celbrate Valentine's Day? Exactly - we are actually celebrate the history that is associated with Christian's glorifying 3 saints. Okay people, don't get me wrong. I am not condemning the Christians or anything. But today's blog is mainly to remind myself and others who seems to be celebrating Valentine's Day blindly and not to mentioned foolishly. Well, personally I have nothing against celebrating the day itself. During my "Jahiliyyah Age"; I do celebrate Valentine's Day by sending cards to my family members and friends. During my Matriculation years in Bangsar, the old Jusco in Jalan Telawi used to sell pretty card during Valentines. What makes them different from other cards? They didn't have the word Valentine printed on it, which is a relief. Each time I send a card to my Ayah, he will definitely give me the "Valentine's Tazkirah" over the phone, on why we are not supposed to celebrate Valentines, why Valentine's is not part of our culture - and of course me being me will retaliate each statement given. Father's day, Mother's Day are also not part of my culture - but why are we still celebrating it? Yup, Ayah had to put up with my strong headed arguments.

Perhaps its because love is supposed to be celebrated every day. I mean myBabah did not have to wait for Valentine's day to give my Bonda a bouquete of roses. Then I thought perhaps it wass wrong to celebrate Valentine's because virgins are so ever eager to lose it during this "Holy Day" or because to many sins are being done during this time - for us Muslim as adultery are a strict No-No (I am sure all of you knows right?). Basically my conclusion was that its not right to celebrate Valentine's Day because of the sins Muslims do during the day.

Personally I think that nowadays the Valentine's celebration has been too commercialized. A spokesperson from a local florist mentioned that every year around Valentine's day the price of flowers will be increAsed by at least 30%. No wonder a bouquet of Red Roses now costs around RM 150 and above. It means that couples will have to plan sooo ahead before Valentines Day. Merely because of the money spend on the flowers, gifts and not to mentioned that bloody expensive diners.

Imagine having to spend average of RM 150 for the flowers, another RM 150 for the bears ( it can be more if we were talkingabout jewelleries)

Some interesting facts regarding Valentines Celebration:

- 188 million Valentine's Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine's Day the second-most popular greeting-card-giving occasion. (This total excludes packaged kids valentines for classroom exchanges.) (Source: Hallmark research)
- Over 50 percent of all Valentine's Day cards are purchased in the six days prior to the observance, making Valentine's Day a procrastinator's delight. (Source: Hallmark research)
- Research reveals that more than half of the U.S. population celebrates Valentine's Day by purchasing a greeting card. (Source: Hallmark research)

Haha, I do not celebrate Valentines as per say but I still participate in the event activities in the office or my work place with the intention of only bringing joy to others and none personal. So don't expect me to give you flowers and chocolates etc okay love :)

A Lot Of Things That Happen - But Not Much To Say

A lot of things have been going on lately. Well, some are EXTREMELY HOT, some are MILD and some are COLD. The EXTREMELY HOT pick would still be the VK Lingam's case. These are considered hot as it involves top & big names here in Malaysia Tun Mahathir Mohamed, Tan Sri Vincent Tan. What I know is what I read. But it all started when the former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim claimed that he has a hot video clips showing of a plot on judicial appointments in 2002. From the news I obtained from www.malaysianbar.org.my

An explosive video clip released today shows senior lawyer VK Lingam in a phone conversation, purportedly with current Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, allegedly fixing the appointment of ‘friendly’ senior judges.

The eight-minute clip, said to be originally 14 minutes when recorded sometime in 2002, was made public this morning at the office of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in Petaling Jaya.Among the matters discussed during the telephone conversation were the potential appointment of Ahmad Fairuz as the Chief Judge of Malaya (CJM) and his promotion as the Chief Justice (CJ), which eventually took place in 2003.In 2002, Ahmad Fairuz was the CJM, in charge of all High Court judges in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as acting President of the Court of Appeal (PCA). Reading from a prepared statement, Anwar said the revelations proved that his appeals against his sodomy and abuse of power convictions were tainted and that he was denied a proper and fair trial.

In 2002, Ahmad Fairuz was the CJM, in charge of all High Court judges in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as acting President of the Court of Appeal (PCA).Reading from a prepared statement, Anwar said the revelations proved that his appeals against his sodomy and abuse of power convictions were tainted and that he was denied a proper and fair trial.

Such a scandalous expose... only serves to corroborate our allegations of a political conspiracy of the highest level and corruption of the highest judicial office, seriously bringing into question the impartiality of judicial proceedings involving the affected parties,” said Anwar.PKR will seek to submit a special appeal to the Conference of Rulers to take appropriate steps. The party will also lodge a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency and a complaint with the Bar Council.Ahmad Fairuz was on the three-member bench which had dismissed Anwar’s appeal against the corruption charge in the Court of Appeal in 2000.

Anwar did not disclose the identity of the person who recorded the video or who had given the clip to the party, but said it had been edited to conceal the identity of a ‘third party’.The recording shows Lingam walking up and down in a room, talking into a handphone. The inference from the discussion was that “key players” should be nominated for judicial appointments in order to hear cases and deliver judgments accordingly.A main point of the conversation - believed to be with Ahmad Fairuz in the context of the conversation - was that there appeared to be two camps in the judiciary belonging respectively to former CJ Eusoff Chin and his successor Mohamad Dzaiddin Abdullah.“You see, he (Dzaiddin) has now up for [sic] six court of appeal judges, so that he can put his men before he retires,” Lingam said.Later in the conversation, he alluded to this matter again, saying: “No, don’t worry, Datuk. I know how much you suffered for Tun Eusoff Chin... and Tun said ‘Datuk Ahmad Fairuz, 110 percent loyalty!’“We want to make sure our friends are there for the sake of the (then-) PM (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and the sake of the country. Not for our own interest [repeated], we want to make sure the country comes first.”Lingam himself had been embroiled in controversy after photographs emerged of him and Chin on holiday together in New Zealand in 1994. However, Eusoff denied any wrongdoing. At one point, the lawyer also indicated that earlier efforts to appoint judges aligned to Chin had been thwarted by former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.“You know that’s the same problem that Tun Eusoff Chin has. He tried to do all this and yet, he has run out of soldiers. He couldn’t do it because many are from the other camp. Last time was unfortunate because Tun Daim was doing everything, sabotaging...”Lingam then revealed that “they are going to organise a campaign to run you down; but you just keep quiet. Don’t say anything. Even (when) the press asks you, say ‘I leave it to God’. That’s all."Also implicated in the conversation were business tycoon Vincent Tan and then-Minister in the PM's Department and current Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.Based on what Lingam let drop, both Tan and Adnan had apparently played an instrumental role in the appointment of judges as well to secure the honorific title of ‘Tan Sri’ for Ahmad Fairuz.“I will also get Tan Sri (Vincent) to remind PM to put a Tan Sri-ship this year, lah. This will elevate you, you know,” said Lingam.Towards the end of the conversation, Lingam acknowledged that “you have suffered...so much you have done, for the election, Wee Choo Keong, everything. How much nobody would have done all this”.Following the 1995 general election, Ahmad Fairuz had upheld a petition contesting DAP candidate Wee’s victory as Bukit Bintang member of Parliament. The ruling saw the Barisan Nasional candidate Dr Lee Chong Meng being declared the winner.Lingam could not be contacted for comment. His office said that he was abroad and is only due back later this month. When contacted this afternoon, the personal assistant to the CJ relayed a message that he wanted to have a look at the video before saying anything. However, subsequent calls to the office were not answered up to 5pm.

Well, it comes to politics I can't really say much. I am in a community where press holds the right to say anything and everything as long it profits the government I guess. 'sigh'. But nevertheless, one know for a fact that this kind of scenario is faced by everyone and anyone in any country where the current government has the hold of almost everything to ensure that they remain in power. Still have a lot of reading to do from any source available :)
